A pleasant surprise! There is a Guajiro corner, rather a paradise, on the coastal border with Magdalena called Palomino. Small (about 4,000 inhabitants, no more), not interesting as a town, but with a beautiful beach of several kilometers, small and charming little hotels, and the most beautiful sunrises.
The most curious thing is how this paradise manages to captivate you. You feel like the owner of every corner. YES! Wherever you look, you have the beach to yourself. There are no vendors pestering you to buy, nor dozens of tourists, just kilometers of CLEAN beach. Undoubtedly, we all seek (at some point) places like this, a quiet beach with a sea to reflect on.
Have you ever dreamed of seeing snow from the sea? I have. HERE it is possible. I saw it… and just a few meters from the hotel.
Being located at the intersection of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Caribbean Sea, you can see the SNOWY mountain (YES SNOWY) from the sea. You didn’t expect that either!
The accommodation and activities are basic, but in paradise, you don’t need much. The hotels are small and without luxuries, but with a very beautiful BUT, with very nice rooms on the beach and excellent cuisine.
Hotels like Makao, Aite, or Matuy (which is a Natural Reserve) are charming and are in the first row of the beach, just step out of your room and the sea is yours. Already inland, there is a wonderful ecological and quality corner: ONE, beautiful accommodation and Natural Sanctuary.
Activities? Whatever you come up with. Rest is the main course. Then you can go tubing down the Palomino or Don Diego River, take surf lessons, walk, read…
Now I understand why Palomino is in fashion.
There is another place with a clean beach: Dibulla, but its tourist infrastructure is very basic. I’ll stick with Palomino.
We’ll talk about the department of Magdalena later.
Until next time.
