I decided to take a “big tour” with my wife Gloria and my daughter Varinia through “the Colombias”. This way I keep myself entertained, learn, review how the country is for traveling, and we recommend firsthand.
Now more than ever, COLOMBIA IS ORGANIZED, CLEAN, AND EMPTY. The benefit you get from traveling under these conditions is exceptional, and the truth is that this way we support the country.
We started our trip through El Magdalena and La Guajira. Magdalena; with beautiful and well-maintained roads where most of the route has dual carriageway with tolls at a bearable cost. Clean rest stops, attended by friendly and efficient people. Grateful to see a “tourist” (I prefer to be called a traveler, but what can you do). On this route, the most remarkable and beautiful thing is its nature. On both sides of the road, you find immense and beautiful pineapple plantations. A delight for the eyes.
Of the towns along the way, I highlight two. Aguachica, with clean and tree-lined streets, with elegant one- or two-story houses, well-maintained, pleasant businesses, and a quiet atmosphere. Nice places to eat and “very charming” little hotels. I liked it a lot.
Aracataca. What a great disappointment! It may be the birthplace of Nobel Prize winner García Márquez, but it seems he did nothing for his “little homeland” or at least it seems so. It is very neglected! It’s not fair.
Then comes La Guajira, (What a landscape! It’s incredible to reach the tip of Colombia and South America) I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.
Until next time.
Edu.
